#plasticfree, for a sustainableVenice
"The problem of plastic is now an emergency in the world, especially in the seas. To deal with it there is only one way: to drastically reduce its use. And then it becomes an obligation to set a suitable work style ". These are the words of Gianni Serandrei at the conference "Plastics reduction and sustainability of the hotel industry" organized in Venice in September 2019, words that were immediately translated into many small actions that are leading the Hotel Saturnia & International towards a policy of #plasticfree.
Breakfast: dispensers and new boxes
The early bird catches the worm! It is from the morning that we started to make our breakfast more environment friendly: we replaced the disposable doses of jams, honey and even yogurt, with practical dispensers.
Furthermore, for our guests who leave early in the morning, projected by the students of the Design course of the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, we have created new breakfast boxes with a double function: first a breakfast container, then a useful object holder. (key holder and glasses holder to hang on the wall) by removing the internal compartment.
The selection of fresh products you will find inside depends on the season, to ensure the best taste and the highest quality, while the mug is made with recyclable and biodegradable materials; together with the natural wood cutlery this represent our concrete gesture to reduce the use of plastic and the strong desire to protect the environment and the entire Planet #plasticfree

As for breakfast, we also took care of our courtesy line. Guests will no longer find the classic disposable shampoo and soap packs but comfortable dispensers, thus reducing the waste produced. Not only. We are also trying to involve our suppliers in the project, for example we are studying with our laundry an alternative solution to the delivery of the bathrobes in plastic bags.
The metal insulated bottle that you can buy at Il Caravellino Bar
On sale at Il Caravellino Bar, our signed insulated bottle is made of metal, lasts a lifetime and allow us to significantly reduce the use of plastic. Our guests can always carry it with them and can fill it with water from glass returnable bottle in our Hotel or with drinking and constantly controlled water from Venetian taps and fountains which can be checked at www.venicetapwater.org
Of course there is much more to do but for us this is a good start!
