Venetian Itineraries -Alternative routes of interest
Would you like to discover an alternative route than the classic touristic routes reported in all guidebooks?
Discover an itinerary "defiladed" from the St. Mark's area, where to find, a very high concentration of testimonies of art and history, as indeed throughout Venice.
We suggest you reach campo SS Giovanni e Paolo with the statue of Colleoni and the Scuola Grande di San Marco. In addition to the beauty of the Basilica and the Scuola, from that area you can also admire a vast open space of the lagoon stretching from the Island of San Michele in Murano to the mainland. Moving only a little further away and strolling even without a precise destination, the gaze can be caught by a less open and more intimate corner: the Corte Botera, - a glimpse of Venetian-ness unknown to most.
Because of its conformation and acoustics, Goldoni - a playwright and writer born in Venice in 1707 - had elected this court as the "rehearsal room" for some of his comedies. In recent times, in the imagination of Hugo Pratt , cartoonist and writer, the same court was the famous Corte Sconta known as Arcana, the starting point of one of the most beautiful adventures of his "Corto Maltese." Hugo Pratt came to Venice at a very young age and although he was not born there, he elected it as his city and lived it with his soul, capturing its essence.
For the safety of the homes that have an overlook or entrance to the courtyard, a gate was put up not long ago, but with a little luck, you can meet some kind tenant who will open up and linger to chat and tell you some anecdotes.
